Noticeboard

We are undertaking a major upgrade of our Clinical computer software. Therefore our repeat prescription service will not be available from the 11th October to 1st November 2010.  Please be sure to order your prescriptions well in advance to ensure you have sufficient medication to cover  you over this period.

As well as being able to order online, you are now able to order your repeat prescription 24 hours a day 7 days a week (including bank holidays), using our automated prescription service.  Just telephone the usual prescription number and follow the prompts. New Skin Care Clinic

Dr Scott runs a Skin Care Clinic on Wednesday afternoons. Dr Scott holds a Diploma in Practical Dermatology from Cardiff University and is now a tutor on the same course. She is also a member of the Primary Care Dermatology Society, attending regular up-date courses and is currently organising training in Dermatology for local GPs. She will be pleased to see ANY skin problems, moles or rashes as it is often very helpful for a specialist to see a problem at the outset, before they have been affected by other treatments. The practice will continue to change its services in response to the needs of the practice population and development, organising and resources of the NHS.

Comprehensive, confidential advice is available for everyone during normal surgery times. Prescriptions for oral contraceptives (the pill and the mini pill) can be given and contraceptive injections administered, by the Nurse Practitioners or the Practice Nurse. The fitting of coils and implants are performed by prior arrangement with a doctor. Jackie Williams will arrange the fitting of a diaphragm (cap). Please ask at reception for an appointment.

Post Coital Contraception (Morning after Pill) The morning after pill is prescribable and can be effective up to 72 hours after unprotected intercourse. A coil can be fitted up to five days later and continues to provide contraception. This is available from Doctors and Nurse Practitioners. Patients may contact the surgery first thing in the morning and after speaking to the nurse will be offered a prescription that morning. If needed at weekends this prescription can be bought over the counter or obtained from the walk-in centre on Talbot Road, Blackpool.

Cervical Smear Tests

We prefer to do these tests within the practice and either the Practice Nurse, Nurse Practitioner or a Doctor can carry them out. Please inform the receptionist when making your appointment, that you will be having a smear test. We follow the local policy of recommending a repeat smear one year after the first one, then every three years until the age of 40, then every five years, until the age of 65, (except) when you have had a hysterectomy or when there is an abnormality requiring more frequent smears. You will receive an invitation by computer typed letter. However, you need not wait for the invitation before making your appointment. Smears are not necessary after the age of 65 as long as you have had two normal smears in the preceding 10 years.
